What Clothes to pack for a weekend getaway
Pool or Beach Items
In the summer (and the winter actually): I almost never go anywhere where I can’t swim or get in a hot tub. Swimming is such a therapeutic activity and also necessary when out of town. So a bathing suit is always in my suitcase. Along with a bathing suit, you’ll want a go-to cover up, sunglasses, flip flops, and a large pool or beach tote. Towels are usually provided if you are staying at a hotel even for the beach.
Sundresses
This is a go to piece in the summer, especially on vacation. A sundress makes getting ready super easy and is perfect for hot weather. Sundresses just instantly remind you that you’re on vacation and it’s summer.
Hats
As mentioned, I have become very big on hats: you need one for every season. Having a summer hat for lounging by the pool or wearing to a day activity is a fashion must but also serves a basic function of protecting you from the sun!
Sandals
I’m not talking about flip flops (although you needs those with your pool items) I am talking about going out sandals! There are some great strappy sandals that are perfect for a day or night out while out of town.
A Light Sweater or Jacket and a Pair of Pants
Most places in California do cool down in the evening, so having something long sleeve to throw on over your sundress or evening look is important. Depending on where you go however you may not need it! I also suggest bringing at least one pair of pants — weather can always change and sometimes being in the sun all day, wearing pants balances your body temps. I have made the mistake of traveling without pants before and opps!
Athleisure Items and/or Tennis Shoes
I am usually not a big fan of working out while on vacation (swimming usually does that for me) but every once in awhile, being able to work out on vacation is really nice and even just having athleisure clothes to wear around the hotel or while getting ready.
Now these are just your basic packing categories — there are always add ons and other must haves depending on where you’re going. Start with these basics then go from there!
