Choosing the perfect accommodation for your weekend getaway:

Where should you stay in Carmel by the sea?

There are several small cottages and inns in Carmel by the Sea but I most recently stayed at La Playa and it did not disappoint.

From the minute you step on the property you feel transported to a Spanish or Italian villa.

The grounds are stunning from the gardens to the architecture. The rooms are cozy and there is a restaurant on the grounds.

They also serve offer an amazing breakfast buffet and have a bar attached for the evenings!

La Playa is also dog friendly – which is a major plus!

There is also a pool which I took advantage of in the morning to swim and on a sunny day it’s perfect for pool lounging.

Since Carmel by the Sea is so small you are within walking distance of the beach and the town so La Playa is a great location for that.

Shopping in the charming boutiques of Carmel by the Sea for Art, antiques and clothing!

Carmel is chock-full of art galleries. It’s a great place to pick up some really unique and original pieces. My mom started collecting art from there many years ago and this time, I picked up my first piece (I am trying to start a gallery wall!). If you just roam the streets you’ll run into several galleries and the people at the galleries are extremely knowledgeable.

Shop on Ocean Ave:

Ocean Avenue is the main drag in town. It’s packed with little boutiques that have all sorts of items from trinkets, to in style fashion items, antiques and more. Each shop is really unique and the owners are so warm and love to chat. One store was serving coffee and cookies!

Indulging in the culinary delights of Carmel by the Sea:

Eating is of course one of my favorite activities while on vacation!

Where can you get the best oysters in Carmel?

There are many great seafood restaurants in Carmel but a favorite of mine is Flaherty’s: with a lovely array of seafood dishes.

We dined on oysters, jumbo prawns and seafood paella.

Stop by the only ice cream shop in town on Ocean Ave. for your sweet fix too!
