Things to Do in Calistoga (Napa Valley)
Calistoga, Ca is a small town at the northern most part of the Napa Valley and it’s a must visit during any trip to wine country.
Famous for its natural hot springs and mud baths; it also has a robust town with restaurants, hotels and shops.
If you’re looking to plan a trip here are things to do in Calistoga.
Where to Stay in Calistoga:
There are a few hotels and inns to chose from but my recommendation is to try the Indian Springs Resort: the pool is heated naturally by the nearby hot springs and it is hot! They also have a regular pool and a spa where they offer messages and mud baths (I have had a message there and it was excellent). The spa offers an outdoor zen area to relax in after your service.
The rooms are very cute and cozy and there is a restaurant on site as well as a snack bar at the pool.
If you want something smaller and right off the main road when you first drive into Calistoga: I’d suggest Roman Spa Resort.
I recently stayed there on a trip to Calistoga and it has a pool and a spa where I enjoyed my first mud bath!
That was an interesting experience. I felt like a potted plant – not in a bad way but the mud was very thick and the texture was different than I had imagined.
The entire mud bath experience was really unique and reinvigorating. Once you’re out of the mud bath: you are able to rinse off and relax in a warm tub with essential oils.

I really loved the location of this inn because it’s right off the main road. Calistoga’s town isn’t too big but this hotel is really the perfect location.
Wine tasting and shopping all in one:
Picayune Cellars – they have a gorgeous wine tasting room on the main street of Calistoga and they also have jewelry, hats, books, and clothing for sale. On Friday nights they have live music!
Where to Eat in Calistoga:
For breakfast go to Sam’s General Store – it’s a walk down the main road almost to the end (across from Indian Springs Resort).
It’s an adorable cafe with indoor and outdoor seating and yummy treats, quiches and coffee.
For dinner or lunch: I recommend the Calistoga Inn Restaurant & Brewing Company – this restaurant has a huge outdoor patio (there is indoor seating as well) and is always super lively in the evenings (especially on the weekends).
Other activities besides wine tasting, shopping and eating I recommend is a bouquet making class at Field Trip – this was so fun and creative.
The store is plush with black walls and vibrant plants, vases, pots, and flowers and in the middle there is a table set up to help you make your bouquet. I loved this activity and of course I left with this gorgeous pale pink vase for my bouquet (and some other gardening accessories).
This is a great itinerary if you’re up in Calistoga for a couple of days and mainly want to stay in the downtown area.
Other places to visit in Calistoga would be the Four Season Resort (which also has two restaurants and a tasting room) but is not located in the downtown area.
