Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding

Now that I’ve recovered from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding (yes, I made that 3 am wake up call) — I can properly recap it to you all.

You most likely know by now that I am an avid royalist — mainly the British royalty (and I have an affinity for all European royalty).  And long before Gary Janetti was the gay alter ego of Prince George on Instagram, I was blogging about Lady Louise Windsor (the Earl of Wessex’s daughter ((Prince Harry and William’s first cousin)) being incredibly awkward at the William and Kate’s wedding in 2011.  Well Gary may have beat me to the satirical Instagram punch, I still maintain that I am a wealth of information when it comes to the royals.  So here are my best and worst moments from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding

I don’t want to be a downer so let’s start with the best moments from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding:

Fergie

I was pleased as can be to see that Fergie was invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding this time around — she was not invited to William’s wedding — but apparently Harry is much closer to her.  She’s also a link to Princess Diana, so seeing her there put a smile on my face.

Princess Charlotte

Once again Princess Charlotte steals the show with total cuteness and several royal waves.

Posh and Becks

These two are their own kind of British royalty and it’s always a treat for the eyes.  Amal Clooney was trying to steal their thunder — I see her.

Prince Harry and Prince Willam

Their entrance into the church was very fun to watch — the two brothers sharing so much comrade and brotherly love.

Meghan’s Reception Gown

The Stella McCartney dress that Meghan wore for her reception was gorgeous.  I hate to say it but I didn’t care for her Givenchy wedding gown.  It was lovely, but it was plain.  Of course she had to have a conservative dress, since they were married in a church and in front of the Queen no less, but the boat neck look wasn’t doing it for me.  I think she could have been more creative with the conservative element of the dress like Kate Middleton did in 2011 — the lace covering made it sexy but discreet at the same time.

Royal Family Arrival

I always love seeing the royal family in different settings — what they’ll wear, how they’ll behave.  Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were much more tame with their fascinators than they were in 2011. Pity.

Pageboy Holding Meghan’s Veil

This child looked so thrilled and happy to be carrying Meghan’s veil — the indelible image of Meghan’s first steps into the church will no doubt have this boy grinning ear to ear in the background.  (Best part is he’s missing his two front teeth.)

Diana’s Subtle Presence

From Diana’s family being there, an empty chair next to Prince William, the forget-me-not flowers, to her sister’s reading at the ceremony — Harry made sure to keep Diana close.  I still, to this day, am fascinated by Diana and it’s so sad to not have her at these royal events.  (That’s why I think having Fergie there was special.)

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding Worst Moments

Price George

Ok, I love sweet little Prince George — but lately he has not been up to the job of his royal duties: like waving and being cute — apparently he’s leaving that to his sister.  (Did you see him on the way to meet his little brother Prince Louis?) I also really disliked the pageboys outfits (which were smaller versions of William and Harry’s coats).  Little George looked like a monk!

Kate’s outfit

Oh Kate — so devious.  She has worn this Alexander McQueen coat three times now (and that includes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding).  I am not sure if this is some kind of subliminal insult toward the wedding as a whole or she just wanted to wear something adjustable because she just had a baby a month ago.  Either way, I was disappointed — I love seeing what she wears and she didn’t step up to the fashion plate this time around.

Camilla

It would have served Camilla to re wear an old outfit — her Pepto-Bismol hat was a little too pink and big if you ask me…

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding

Reverend…

Oh Reverend Curry.  When he said he was going to stop preaching and let Harry and Meghan get married, I believed him (that was a mistake).

Doria (Meghan’s Mother)

I only put her on the worst list because she wore the same color as the Queen and that is a fashion don’t.  She was very sentimental and already crying when the wedding began — no stiff upper lip for her: her American was showing.

Windsor

I felt underwhelmed by Windsor.  It’s quaint and lovely — the castle is stunning but the church itself was too understated for a royal wedding.  Plus the couple couldn’t kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace like many royal couples have historically done.  I suppose Windsor was a step up from Meghan’s first wedding — I think it was at a Marriott property?!  (Ha!  Fun fact: my BF actually worked for her first husband…so I basically know her.)

The Kiss

As mentioned in the last point — the kiss was so blah!  They kissed outside the church in front of a few peasants, err, people in Windsor, which does not hold a candle to a kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.  Womp. Womp.

The Titles

Duke and Duchess of Sussex.  I was highly surprised to hear that the Queen bestowed them with royal titles that are equal to that of William and Kate.  Historically, they would have received a title like Earl and Countess — since they are a tier below William and Kate in terms of the hierarchy.  For instance: Charles is the Prince of Wales, the second son: Andrew is the Duke of York, and the third brother: Edward is Earl of Wessex (his wife is a Countess).  Seems to me the Queen has gotten soft in her old age.

So there you have it — my recap of the royal wedding: what were your best and worst moments of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding?
