National Lipstick Day

Apparently, yesterday was National Lipstick Day.  I love lipstick as much as the next fashionista but there is an actual day dedicated to lipstick–what’s today: national mascara day?  HA!  Well, in honor of the creamy colors us ladies (and some men) like to paint on our faces, I have composed a make-up and hair post to showcase my new tresses and some of my favorite make-up and hair products.

Make-Up

1. Eyebrows: I fill in my eyebrows with Benefit’s Brow Shaping Kit.

2. Eyes and Lashes:  For my eyes, I often use a mix of shadows but my go-to palette is by Stila.  I use Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner to define my eyes and for mascara, I love YSL’s version.

3. Face: I start by using concealer to cover up blemishes and I love the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick,  I also use YSL’s ‘Touche ´Eclat‘ to brighten the skin under my eyes.  I blend that in and then, on my entire face, I use a cream foundation by YSL.  To set the foundation, I use Laura Mercier’s loose setting powder

4.  Cheeks: On my cheeks, I begin with Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in ‘Pink Quartz‘ (as a base).  I then, depending on the season or my look, top it off with Bobbi Brown’s blush in ‘Pale Pink’ or Benefit’s ‘Dallas’ bronzer.  Recently, I have been mostly using the bronzer as I love the tint it provides in the summer.

5.  Lips:  For this look I decided to go with a really standout lip because of the color of the dress.  (Which you will see more of later in the week.)  In the above photo, I am wearing a Mac lipstick in a somewhat off-red color.  It’s a great summer color–very playful and fun.  If I want a more neutral look, as I have in this post, I go for this pale pink lipstick by YSL.

Hair

As I mentioned in my last post, I finally got my hair cut and colored and got quite a bit of hair chopped off.  My hair grows very quickly and in the last month it was all the way into the lower part of my back!  Since it’s still summer and I was in need of a refreshing look, I thought a shorter cut would be perfect.  I still have long layers and I love how the hair in the front is much shorter.  It’s always nice to change your look up a little as it can give you that much needed energy you might be missing from time to time.

As a result of the shorter length, it is lightweight and easy to style.  To style my hair, as I have done in the above photos, I use an inch and a half curling iron (mine is by Revlon and is great!) and start to curl the hair throughout.  The hair in the back can sometimes be harder to curl but if it doesn’t completely curl–no problem–if you blow dry it, it will still have a very stylish and chic look.  I use a John Frieda blow dryer.  For styling products, I love Bumble and Bumble such as the ‘Brilliantine’ cream and their hairspray.
