Visions of the Scottish Highlands: Marchesa Fall 2014, NYFW

Envision the Scottish Highlands through a fog of ‘billowing bonfires:’ this is the Marchesa Fall 2014 Collection.  British designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig presented an explosive collection of lace, silk, and fur in saffron, teal, and cinnamon colors.

As every Marchesa collection is truly an extraordinary dream, this one was more exquisite than the last.  The draping of silk and tulle on the bodice were so detailed and beautiful.  I had a straight on view of the dresses as they came down the runway and it was such a treat to be able to see all the detail in person.

I have always been enamored with glamour and evening wear and being able to attend this runway show was of particular importance to me, because when I first moved to NYC, in 2009, my first internship was with Marchesa!  Interning at Marchesa was everything I expected and wanted it to be: glamourous, exciting, and invaluable experience in the industry.  Being able to enjoy the show from a different perspective, yesterday, was truly amazing.

Below I have a gallery of the full looks and the details of the dresses (click on thumbnail images to see enlarged photos.).  With a Marchesa confection, the front is one look and the back is a another, leaving me gawking from the front and behind! Absolutely stunning!

Detail shots:

From the feathered skirts, to the pleating and the draping of the silk, to the detailed embroidery, all of these creations were a true work of art (and I have seen the hard work that goes into making each of these gowns.).  I know we will be seeing some of these pieces on the red carpet very soon!  (Oscars anyone?)  There were some A-list actresses sitting front row to eye the collection themselves: Katie Holmes, Anna Kendrick, Tyra Banks, and Sarah Paulson.

My favorite details:

Favorite Skirt: Look 14 “Yumi.”

The ostrich feather skirt in a ‘fiery orange.’  The vibrancy of the color and the movement of this skirt was unreal.  I imagine this in white, as well, as a wedding dress. (Right.)

These trousers though!  Look 16 These trousers though!  Look 16 “Iris,” Marchesa Fall 2014

Favorite Trousers: Look 16 “Iris.”

These ‘black silk ribbon lace-up trousers’ were a head turner!  The criss-crossing of the ribbon up the leg was so beautiful.  It’s a statement piece, like these, that make an outfit so special. (See left.)

Look 22 Look 22 “Pauline.”  Marchesa Fall 2014

Favorite color: Look 22 “Pauline.”

There were plenty of lovely saffron hues on the Marchesa runway, but the way it looked on the shinny silk crepe was unforgettable. (Right.)

Look 23 Look 23 “Kim.”  Marchesa Fall 2014

Favorite Draping: Look 23 “Kim.”

Marchesa is known for its exquisite draping and this ‘saffron gold silk chiffon’ swayed down the runway from the front and the back.  I’m sure we’ll see someone wearing this one to the Oscars!  (Left.)
