Glee is back!

Since Glee fell on Valentine’s Day and I took it upon myself to go out and have a glass of wine (yes I do that and actually it’s the best way to meet people!) I wasn’t able to watch Glee’s Valentine’s Day special. I also somehow got sucked into ‘Lin Mania’ and I’d also like to take credit for coining the phrase ‘Lintini,’ just saying.  So I finally caught the new Glee episode last night and I am so thrilled to say that ‘Glee is back’ and when I say ‘back’ I don’t mean back from a one week hiatus, I mean this episode brought me back to the good old Glee days, when the songs were fun and they meant something to the storyline.  The love trio between Artie, the Irish Guy, and crazy ass Sugar was adorable-even though it hardly seems fair for an awkward glove wearing wheel chair teenager to go up against a tall hunky Irish man.  It’s annoying to me that Glee (Ryan Murphy, since he is the creator) is still trying to make Artie happen.  And rest assured, we found out the bad news that Artie is a Junior this year-so YAY he’ll be back.  UGH.  Whatever.  When Artie serenaded Sugar during class it really only got sexual when Puck and the rest of the boys stood up and started dancing; thank god those guys have Artie’s back.
I also enjoyed the Valentine gram songs, especially the one that was delivered to Rachel and I find it amusing that Mercedes’ church choir happens to volunteer, on a work day, at Mercedes’ school and help them sing.  HA!  I’ll skip over the whole Christian club thing as I’m not really sure what happened to all the Jewish writers for this episode.

The last part of the episode I want to touch on is the first appearance of Rachel’s dads.  I thought the dads were quirky and the perfect amount of awkward and surely give good explanation as to why Rachel is such a nerd slash freak all at the same time.  However, I don’t like that the producers of Glee were trying to pull a fast one on me with the identity of the dads.  Some of you may or may not remember that Rachel had a photo of her with her dads posted in her locker on the first episode of Glee; one of her dads was clearly African American.  Now, all of a sudden, they are both older white men?!?  This is just like the time on Beverly Hills 90210 when they changed Kelly’s bday from Spring to Fall.  That did NOT sit with me well then and neither does this, Glee mash up (pun!) of the fathers, now.

Besides some plot holes I loved the music and hopefully Glee will continue this way until the end of the season.

The songs were so good! I loved Artie’s smooth one. But I think the show stopper was Mercedes’ Whitney. It gave me chills and was a touching tribute.
