The Ultimate Useful Tips for Holiday Outfit Shopping

This is your guide to holiday outfit shopping!

The holidays are right around the corner and I am going to tell you how to get ahead of your holiday outfit shopping!

I am a shopping pro and in particular when it comes to the holidays and curating outfits I have some very useful shopping tips!

From Halloween, to Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and NYE — there are a lot of holiday outfits to plan!

Shopping in person can be so fun but also stressful — so I do quite a bit of my shopping online.

Since I fancy myself as a savvy online shopper I put together these 5 useful tips for making your holiday outfit shopping experience easier!

Let’s get the 2023 holiday season off to a fashionable and easy start with 5 tips for holiday outfit shopping:

1. Find a Retailer with Fast Shipping

  • Asos and Shopbop both have two day shipping: Asos offers a shipping program that is $19.00 for a year of two day shipping (worth it!).

With Shopbop, you can link with your Amazon Prime account and get 2 day free shipping but even without that they offer 3 day free shipping!

  • Nordstrom is fairly fast as well but they don’t offer a specific program.

2. Shop somewhere with Free Returns

  • I won’t shop anywhere that doesn’t offer free returns. This is especially important when shopping for a holiday look!
  • It’s a huge waste of time and money to buy something that you may not like or fit into, only to have to pay the return cost out of pocket.
  • Make sure to check the return policy before shopping and ordering.

Shopbop, Asos, and Nordstrom offer free returns. Amazon does as well on some items – make sure to check.

3. Find Affordable Pieces

  • Depending on the e-tailer and what I’m shopping for, the prices can range (and of course affordability is quite subjective) but for the most part there are affordable options across the board.
  • Asos always has really reasonably priced items (usually under $100)
  • Shopbop has great sale items — that are all returnable until they become 70% off.
  • Nordstrom has affordable pieces from their private label brands like Leith and other brands like Halogen x Atlantic Pacific (Blair Eadie’s new collection with them!).

4. Get a Couple Options

  • Shop from e-tailers (like the aforementioned ones) that have a multitude of options.
  • For the holidays, it’s always a good idea to have a few different options on hand because as we all know, the day the party or the event arrives: you may change your mind or just not be that into what you originally wanted to wear.
  • So pulling an audible and changing up your outfit is made easy by having options.

5. Get Two Sizes

  • Since you will be shopping from a retailer with free returns — if you’re not sure on the sizing of a piece: get two!  This is my go to way to shop online.  If I have never ordered a style or a piece from a particular brand before or perhaps I am fitting into my clothes differently (i.e. had too much Halloween candy and the eating really never stops from there…)
  • I always order two sizes and return the one that doesn’t work.
  • Brand sizes can vary as well — your normal size may not work for a brand that makes dresses or fancier pieces — so getting two sizes is always a good idea!
