Hollywood Does DC

Pucci, Oscar de la Renta, Armani, Vivienne Westwood, Jenny Packham, Monique Lhuillier were just some of the designers whose gowns adorned celebrities on the red carpet Saturday night.  The glitz and glam of Hollywood schlepped to Washington DC, which is a rarity, for the White House Correspondents Dinner.  I mean who wouldn’t want Rachel Zoe on their side; she can spell ‘bananas’ and she told Anne Hathway that she doesn’t read books.   Half the cast of Glee can’t legally vote yet but they’ll take it out on you by singing Whitney Houston’s ‘It’s not Right, but it’s Ok.’  Sofia Vergara was tweeting pics all night and was generally excited because the President made a mistake and greeted the entire audience with “My Fellow Americans.’  Kim Kardashian saw the red carpet and all the celebrities and thought the President was knocking off her wedding to Kris Humprhies.
I kid.  Sort of.  I find it comical when celebrities seem to be political when they’re all really there to wear gorgeous gowns and schmooze.  That’s why I’d be there, hello!  Obama is no stranger when it comes to schmoozing with the celebs.  Last Spring I was on the way to my gym and noticed a commotion in the street.  As it turns out Obama was in the West Village for a dinner at prominent movie producer’s house: Harvey Weinstein whose wife is Marchesa fashion designer Georgina Chapman (both of whom were at the dinner last night).  So I don’t really pass up an opportunity to see a celeb and decided to hang outside of the Weinstein house (I wasn’t the only one!) to see the celebs as they exited the Obama dinner.  Obama took a helicopter to JFK, he didn’t want to hit traffic.  Obvi.  So as the dinner came to an end celebs trickled out: Gywneth Paltrow and husband Chris Martin, Vera Wang, Alicia Keys, and my personal favorite: Jimmy Fallon.  He was awesome and took pics with some people and chatted a bit.  I told him he had to keep doing the ‘Real Housewives’ spoof and he replied ‘Ya! I’m an ugly lady!  He’s so great.

I think my favorite part of the night was when Gayle King (ya you heard me) came out and a couple of people asked her ‘Gayle, how was the President,’  and she smoothly replied ‘the president is always great.’  MAKEITSTOP.  Oh, Jesus, Gayle.  Just stop.  Obviously Oprah couldn’t make it so you went in her place.  You’re just always rubbing elbows with the President that you can’t even decipher one time from the other.  If there is one person, aside from Jessica Simpson and the Kardashians, I don’t have patience for it’s Gayle King.

Anyways, if sounds like the Correspondents Dinner was a night of hanging with the homies and the fashion of course dazzled.  Check out the pics!

No Kim, this is not your wedding, again. Kris, something crazy is happening with your hair.

Rachel Zoe tweeted this picture of herself and Georgina Chapman. The pose still has me wondering. Photo courtesy of Rachel Zoe’s twitter.
