My Experience Attending Watch What Happens Live
I made it to the Watch What Happens Live clubhouse on a night Joan Rivers is going to be interviewed.
So all my persistence and tweeting is slowly starting to pay off!!
My tweet reached the “Watch What Happens Live” Gods and I convinced them to let me come and be in the audience of the show! It was no coincidence that Joan Rivers was the guest that night either ; ) If you have read my posts before you’ll remember “My Ode to Joan Rivers.”
I just really cannot get enough of her. I mainly watch her on Fashion Police where she tears apart Hollywood for their unfortunate fashion decisions (the fact of the matter is I am always spot on when it comes to calling out these celebrities as well). Joan, if you’re reading, can I come critique Hollywood with you and the rest of the fashion police gang?! She’s brutal but funny and she calls out celebs on their BS-doesn’t get any better than that.
Seeing her interviewed, in person, by Andy Cohen, was truly a treat–they have an open bar during the show!
She walks into the building already throwing F-bombs by asking the audience: “to laugh at all her jokes, because she’s had a f*cking long day!” It only got better from there.
Although Joan is hysterical and brass, it’s really not just her humor that intrigues me but also her longevity in show business. She truly has been at the front lines of this business and has been privileged to work with some of the greatest. She’s been through it all and she has transcended the times: i.e. she now has her own reality show: “Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best” (that kind of TV did not exist when she was starting out). She has interviewed and was a friend of the legendary comedian Lucille Ball. She was the permanent guest host for Johnny Carson on his talk show and she also was the first to ask the question ‘who are you wearing?’ During the taping of Watch What Happens Live she happily talked about all this and her days as a stand up comic at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village.
Joan also joked openly about Elizabeth Taylor, JFK, and more.
My favorite tidbit was when Andy asked her about her reaction to the 70 something woman who is telling all about her supposed affair with JFK. Joan’s response: “Who hasn’t slept with JFK? Let’s go around the room and ask…and start with the bartender” (the bartender was a male probably in his late 60’s!). HAHA! There were some wonderful “laugh out loud” moments for sure.
