How to Drive Traffic to your Blog

As I continue to evolve as I blog, I often find new ways of reengaging with my content and followers. Lately, with Covid 19 and social distancing, I’m spending more time doing just that by playing around with tools that can help to drive more traffic to my blog. Social media is grand and is a fantastic extension of my blog but my blog is my digital real estate: I own it. Instagram: I rent, Tik Tok: I rent, Pinterest: I rent. I always keep in mind that all those platforms could disappear tomorrow or be eclipsed by another platform i.e. Tik Tok doing just that to IG currently.

I have discovered that these 3 resources can significantly help to drive traffic to your blog.

How to drive traffic to your blog

1.Pinterest

Pinterest has been around since 2010. When it first came to the scene it was a fun tool that was very helpful for bloggers: because it was so visual. Over the years, as Instagram came to be so popular, I wasn’t actively using Pinterest. However, this platform should not be overlooked. It’s effectively a search engine that can ultimately drive people to your blog.

Images with keyword rich titles and descriptions can get a lot of views, saves, and click throughs. It’s far more powerful than Instagram for referring people to a website.

You have to put in the time however, I recommend posting several photos (like 5-10) a few days a week. Add descriptive and searchable labels: for example, if I am posting about my recent trip to Napa: I would label the photo with “Napa Valley Trip” or “What to do in Napa Valley” and so forth.

A great tip I learned, when researching the best practices for Pinterest, was that you should search a topic within Pinterest and see what key words come up.

Then use those key words when pinning and writing copy for your photo.

2. Email Subscriber List

Having an email list is like gold. People that have subscribed to your email list have opted in on receiving your newsletter and that is special. This is something that can’t be erased or taken away from you. Recently, watching Mrs. America on Hulu: Cate Blanchett’s character Phyllis Schlafly even said: “I worked hard for all those names on my mailer list!” (No email back then!)

Pro tip: Work with a developer to design a unique email newsletter that represents your brand.

Doing so: shows cohesion of your brand across all platforms. Plus, it’s a great template that you can easily create your newsletter in each time you send one out.

An email newsletter encourages your subscribers to check in on your website or blog with a call to action.

3. Facebook

I know, Facebook isn’t exactly popular anymore but people are still on it and they do use it. I post blog post links and shopping links there and I find that many more people click through on FB than on the IG swipe ups (via IG Stories). Although, IG swipe ups would be my next suggestion for driving traffic to your blog.

Try out these three tools that help to drive traffic to your blog and let me know how it works for you!
