Visit Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.
If you’ve never been to London – these two are must visits! They are major attractions and with the monarchy being such a large part of British culture: it’s a do not miss!
The Royal Family is well known throughout the years of Britain’s history and in more modern times – they have given a resurgent to the somewhat outdated Royal Family.
The Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (2018) – and their unceremonious exit from royal life as well as the marriage of the future King and Queen of England: Prince William and Princess Kate brought new eyes to England.
And of course, the late Queen Elizabeth II was a formidable figurehead for the country for nearly an entire century and is the UK’s longest reigning monarch.
After seeing Buckingham Palace make sure to go over to Big Ben and Westminster Palace. Both are stunning structures.
Shopping in London – From High Street to Luxury Brands
London is a shopper’s paradise, offering everything from high street fashion to luxury brands.
Oxford Street, one of the busiest shopping streets in Europe, is home to over 300 shops, including popular retailers like Zara, Topshop, and H&M.
The vibrant atmosphere makes for an exciting shopping experience, with street performers and window displays adding to the allure.
For those seeking luxury, Bond Street is the place to be. This renowned street is lined with high-end boutiques and designer labels, including Chanel, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton.
The elegant storefronts and upscale ambiance create a lavish shopping experience. Even if you’re not in the market for high-end fashion, it’s worth strolling down Bond Street to admire the exquisite window displays and soak in the luxurious atmosphere.
If you prefer a more eclectic shopping experience, head to Camden Market. Known for its alternative fashion and unique finds, Camden Market is a vibrant hub of creativity. From vintage clothing and handmade accessories to quirky home décor, you’ll find an array of treasures. The market also features a diverse range of food stalls, offering everything from international cuisine to vegan delights. Exploring Camden Market is not just about shopping; it’s an immersive experience that captures the spirit of London’s diverse culture.
Go shopping – London has amazing shops: from Selfridges (akin to Saks or Bloomingdale’s), Liberty – very high end, and of course the famous Harrod’s – once owned by Dodi Al Fayed’s father (Dodi was dating Princess Diana when they both died in a car crash in Paris).
Where to Eat in London:
London’s culinary scene is a tapestry of flavors, reflecting its multicultural identity. From traditional British fare to global cuisine, the city offers a dining experience for every palate.
One of the best ways to experience local cuisine is by indulging in a classic fish and chips meal. Head to a traditional pub or a seaside-style eatery, where you can enjoy crispy battered fish served with chunky chips and tartar sauce. Pair your meal with a pint of local ale for an authentic British experience.
For those seeking international flavors, Borough Market is a must-visit destination. As one of London’s oldest and largest food markets, it offers a plethora of food stalls, each showcasing diverse culinary traditions. From artisanal cheeses and freshly baked bread to exotic spices and gourmet street food, the market is a feast for the senses. Take your time wandering through the stalls, sampling various offerings, and chatting with passionate vendors who are eager to share their culinary expertise.
If you’re in the mood for something sweet, don’t miss out on the iconic afternoon tea experience. Several hotels and tea rooms across London offer this quintessentially British tradition, complete with delicate sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and an array of pastries.
The Ritz and Claridge’s are famous for their lavish afternoon tea service, but you can also find delightful options in smaller establishments. It’s a wonderful way to relax and enjoy a taste of British culture, accompanied by a cup of perfectly brewed tea.
