The Ultimate Designer Guide to Fashion Brand Self Portrait
Self Portrait has been a brand I admired but I never thought it was a brand I could fit into or afford! However, once I started trying on the pieces and seeing how they fit (and getting savvy about when they go on sale!), I realized: I can wear this brand! I already loved how chic and unique each style was so once I got past the fit issue I couldn’t be stopped! I am always eyeing a new Self Portrait piece to try and buy.
Self Portrait pieces are known for their structural elements, lace panels and netting.
Every year, since the brand started in 2013 (same year I started MSL!), it has gotten progressively more and more interesting, gorgeous and popular — celebrities, reality TV stars and even Duchess Kate and Duchess Meghan Markle have helped to give them great visibility.
And my very favorite housewife from Real Housewife of Beverly Hills: Kyle Richards was recently wearing the exact same dress I have!
The pieces range from dresses, tops, jumpsuits and they are surely perfect for any formal event you have!
How does Self Portrait Fit?
The items in my current rotation have been the midnight jumpsuit and the paneled maxi dress (which runs big FYI). I normally wear a size 10 in Self Portrait and the brand’s sizing does run small, however, the paneled maxi is the first dress I have worn that actually was the opposite (and runs big).
The blue dress below — runs about true to size, not small. I am wearing a size 8 in that dress.
My advice is to buy Self Portrait from a retailer with complimentary returns (all my links are from retailers like this — I have a strict rule: no shopping from retailers that charge for returns!) so you can get two sizes the first couple times you order and see how they fit. (This is only if you are online shopping — which I almost always do!)
Try this brand for some feminine and cutting edge looks you can wear to a wedding, casino night (like I recently did!), or a fancy dinner party! You can also mix and match their tops with a more relaxed pant, skirt or a pair of shorts.
