Amur Dresses: A Style Blogger’s Review
Amur dresses: is the focus of my next installment of my series: A Style Blogger’s Review. I am trying on and giving my honest feedback on the brand.
Amur is a mid to high end brand that can be found on the same racks as Staud and Self Portrait.
The brand is mostly formal wear and mostly dresses.
Minus a few long skirts and tops that are usually sets meant to be worn in a formal setting.
I have browsed this brand on Shopbop and have always loved the aesthetic: colorful with pleated skirts, and flair detailing at the necklines. It’s obvious it’s a creative fashion brand when it comes to its design aesthetic: which is why I was drawn to it.
I first bought an Amur dress earlier this year for my birthday (see red dress below) and it did not disappoint: the bold pattern, color and the dress construction and design was fabulous.
There was one problem: the material does not have any stretch, so when it came to how the dress fit: it was a little prickly. It was tight with very little give and made sitting somewhat difficult.
How do Amur dresses Fit?
The short is answer is small.
In the red dress I ordered a size 10 and it fit – just right but was a tad snug. I held out and didn’t size up (I believe it was also on sale and it was the last one). Unfortunately it’s the type of dress that if you gain a few pounds it becomes uncomfortable because of the lack of stretch.
But I still adore the dress – so I am hanging onto it in hopes it might fit at some point (cue diet starts tomorrow!).

In any case, now that I know I need to size up with this brand: I recently ordered this gorgeous pleated yellow dress (below) – I feel like “Belle” from Beauty and the Beast!
Knowing these dresses run small and this fabric also had no stretch: I opted for a size 12.
Welp: this time it was too big!
So when shopping for Amur dresses: I would consider the fabric: does it stretch? And if you are a true size of a half size.
As much as I adore the style of these dresses: I am coming to the conclusion that they are not the right fit for me. But that doesn’t mean they won’t work for you! When they fit: they look divine and are perfect for a wedding guest dress.
(I did look into getting the red dress altered but because of the corset boning at the top part of the dress – there was very little fabric to work with and I didn’t want to compromise the design of the dress.)
Conclusion on Amur Dresses:
Love the brand’s designs and styles.
Fit is very subjective – so try on a few sizes (always make sure you can return for free!)
Great for weddings, formal parties, or a resort vacation look.
Pricing: dresses range from about $300-$800.
Viv Mitered Pleating Dress in Yellow:
(I am wearing a size 12 here – it’s falling too low on my chest and not fitted all around my mid section.)
Love the pleated detailing on this dress.
