Have you heard!?  Someone named Whitney just moved into the Meatpacking district in NYC and everyone is flocking to see her…well it’s not exactly a she…it’s more of an it.  Although, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney was a woman who was a great advocate for American artists and took it upon herself to create a space to house the art she wanted to see.

So I (and my parents) had to see the latest sensation to enter the meatpacking since Samantha did on Sex and the City.  The Whitney Museum is a fabulous place: it’s modern, stylistic, and spacious.  It’s more of an all day destination rather than a museum.  Yes, each floor houses American art from different decades, but it seems that most people go for the experience.  The museum is asymmetrical with many levels and balconies overlooking NYC and New Jersey on each side.  Each floor has a balcony with various attractions, such as the colorfully spread chairs in the photos above.  There are cafés and restaurants on different levels, one of which is called “Untitled.”

This is a great place to visit as a tourist or a local.  Go with a friend or bring family when they are in town.  It’s the perfect way to spend a day in the Meatpacking.
