What you’ll need for a loose side braid hairstyle:
A hairbrush, Hair tie, texturizing spray, bobby pins, and hairspray
Some of those products would hairspray and some Brillantine styling cream (both by Bumble and Bumble).
Step 1:
Start by brushing your hair to remove any tangles.
If you want extra volume and texture, you can use a texturizing spray or dry shampoo to give your hair a bit more grip.
This will help the braid hold better and create a fuller appearance.
Start by softly message the product into the hair, so that when when you begin braiding the hair will stick and hold.
Step 2: Gather your hair to one side
Choose which side you’d like your braid to rest on and sweep all of your hair over to that side. If you have layers or shorter pieces, you can use bobby pins to secure them at the back.
Step 3: Divide and start braiding
Separate your hair into three equal sections.
Begin a classic three-strand braid by crossing the right section over the middle, then the left section over the new middle.
Keep the braid slightly loose to maintain a soft and relaxed look.
Step 4: Loosen the braid
Once you reach the end of the braid, secure your braid with a hair tie.
The pull out a piece of the hair and as you pull the strand of hair down, push the braid up, so it starts to become chunky (see bottom right image below).
To add even more of that effortless, messy look, gently tug on the sides of the braid to loosen it as well.
This technique, known as “pancaking,” gives the braid more volume and a boho-chic feel.
Step 5: Set your style
If you have any stray hairs, you can either embrace the natural wisps for a romantic touch or use bobby pins to tame them.
A light mist of hairspray will help keep everything in place without making the braid feel stiff.
Pro tips for a loose side braid:
- If your hair is silky and doesn’t hold braids well, try braiding it on second-day hair or using a bit of texturizing spray for extra grip.
- Add a bow with ribbon or hair accessory for a more polished look.
Now you’re ready to rock your loose side braid with confidence!
Enjoy your loose side braid, that looks easy, fresh, and adorable!
