Happy Anniversary Cabo Love Turns One

Happy Anniversary

One Year.  Wow!  Last year, on this very day: June 30th I met Adam.  I was living in NYC and he was living in LA and we were brought together (inadvertently) by our friends getting married in Cabo San Lucas.  When I decided to attend my friend’s wedding, I was excited purely because it was a fun destination, with a group in their early 30’s and it was 5 days staying at an all-inclusive resort.  I never thought it would be a life altering trip.  Of course, I mused about the idea of meeting someone but figured that wasn’t going to happen.  But this time was different.  This time was special.

Cabo Love

When I met Adam, we were hanging at the Pueblo Bonito main pool, and he was getting very involved in the all-inclusive aspect of the resort: “Nachos and margaritas…keep them coming” he gleefully ordered.  I saw him from across the pool area (yes, I spotted him first!  I’m very perceptive, so #notsurprising) and he had a huge smile on his face (probably because he just ordered a boat load of margaritas) and he looked undeniably fun.  I walked right up to him and said “Are you Mark’s friend?” (Mark being the groom, I am friends with the bride and didn’t know many of the groom’s friends), he replied “yes” and then plenty of witty banter ensued.  After that moment, we were literally attached at the hip for the rest of the wedding trip.  He asked me to be his date to the wedding – adorable — and he even changed his flight to stay one more night with me (is this real life?!).  (Ladies: find a man that will change their flight for you!)

The five days of “Cabo Love” (as we lovingly nicknamed our romance) was a literal dream.  I had met someone special and it was not a flash in the pan.  This felt real and it’s so refreshing to know that when your gut tells you it’s real, it is.  The trip came to an end and then came the inevitable nerves: will we see each other again, how, when?  I live there he lives here.  Logistically, it was daunting.  However, we talked about seeing each other after Cabo and I trusted my gut that we would indeed see each other again.

Back to Reality

July 5th — back in NYC…ouch, being back in the office hurts.  Sitting there in my cubicle reminiscing about the most amazing few days and Adam.  That day we talked on Facetime (from my company’s panty closet – I worked at a bra and panty company, that closet came in quite handy) and we never went another day, while I lived in NYC, without Facetiming.  Two weeks later, he came to visit and we spent a romantical weekend in the most fabulous city.  Drinks at the White Horse Tavern, a stroll through Central Park, a visit to the Met – NYC is always the best city to experience romance.  He bought me a cactus as my parting gift (the “love cactus” as we call it is still with us today!) and we made plans for our next visit.  That would be Labor Day – I came to Los Angeles and saw what life could be like out here with Adam.  After one more visit, it was settled – we wanted to be together all the time, full-time and I moved back to my home state.

Fast forward to now: we’ve endured a cross country long distance relationship, a move across the country, and the ups and downs of merging our lives together and we are still going for it!  Leaving my job and life in NYC for a relationship has been quite the adventure and opportunity.  It’s been the most exciting adventure of my life and I have no regrets.

Here’s to one year and to the start of our second.  Below are some highlights of our relationship!
