Dresses, Glamour, Red Carpet-OH MY!

Awwww yes we are embarking on my favorite TV event of the year (the super bowl already passed and as intriguing as it is to see a barking Gisele after the game, I’ll pass-ha pun)! So it is safe to say that the Oscars are my super bowl. I love the red carpet, the interviews, the dresses, the speeches, the tributes, the announcers…I love it all!! I am extremely invested in this award show and take it very seriously. I make it a point not to go to an Oscar party just so I don’t have to deal with chatter during the show.

Of course the funnest part is to see who shows up wearing what. I want to see all the good and all the bad. So this is my pre-Oscar special on what to expect from this years red carpet leading ladies.

Angelina Jolie:

Angelina has two dates this year: her ego and Brad Pitt. HA! She’s mixed it up in terms dresses this award season. At the Golden Globes she went for a structured Versace gown whereas at the SAG awards she went for a loose material. For the Oscar’s though I think she will go back to something more formfitting and tough just like her.

The Helpful Ladies: These ladies all starred in “The Help” together and will for sure be spotlighted on the red carpet.

Viola Davis:

This woman is hot in bold colors. From a white Marchesa frock at the Globes, to her hot pink cocktail dress at the Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon, to a true blue: she can wear a bold color like no one else and she looks esquisite doing it! I see her bringing the heat in color again just in time to scoop up her first Oscar.

Octavia Spencer: Since Octavia is a favorite for the shiny statue she has been getting a lot of attention for what she wears. Let’s be honest she wears wrap dresses, big deal slash blah. She is a heavy set woman so it does fit her figure but putting her on the ‘Best Dressed List’ is a stretch. I’ll put money on it that she will end up in another flowy wrap type dress…whatever.

Jessica Chastain: Apparently this girl has been in about a million movies this year. Huh. News to me. I have gotten in the bad habit of waiting to see movies until they come out on TNT about 5 years after their theatre release date; and of course they have commercials and have edited out a third of the movie. I do my homework when it comes to who’s who at the Oscars though-don’t get me wrong.

Jessica, wore a striking blue at the Globes with a low cut front. It was nice. Nice is the least existing descriptive word in the English language. She’s a gingy (red head) so I have a feeling she’ll go with a bold color again since those tend to complaint faired skinned red headed people.

Emma Stone:

She’s been deemed as the darling of the red carpet. She doesn’t often miss the fashion mark when it comes to the red carpet (anyone remember that peach Calvin Klein dress she wore last year?!?!). She’s strolled the carpet in a pleated chiffon Lanvin at the Globes (see pic) and a feminine and flirty knee length dress by McQueen at the SAG Awards. So I think she will pull out all the stops at the Oscars with something extremely feminine yet fashion forward. A newer Chanel piece or Versace might just be the choice for her.

Dragon Lady:

Rooney Mara is making the rounds. It’s fun to see her still bring some edge from her Lisabeth Salander character into her real life persona and thus onto the red carpet. She wears mainly black just like her character but with a feminine twist. She’s been doing a lot of cut out pieces so I think she will stick with that and probably black or another monochromatic tone: always staying slightly in character.

The Sidekick:

Stacey Keibler: George Clooney’s lastest flavor has become a hot topic. Honestly, who cares? We all know she won’t be strolling the red carpet next year on the arm of George Clooney (and you’re pretty much road meat once he’s dumped you-Elisabetta Canalis is slumming it with that Jackass guy). Stacey’s been wearing very pretty and safe dresses all season. Always looking just right. She was spotted at the Marchesa show at Mercedez Benz fashion week recently so I have an inkling she’ll show up in one of their frothy confections. Although, she dare not over due it as to outshine her leading man who’s nominated for the big award. Come on Stacey, don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

If She Only Had Heath…

Michelle Williams:

Her main accessory at awards shows of any kind is her bestie Busy (pronounced boozy?!) whatever her name is from Dawson’s Creek. Embarrassing. It would be better for your award career if you tried a little less to remind us of the Dawson Creek days. At least she’s not bringing Katie Holmes around. Michelle Williams seems to always have an awkward seriousness about her on the red carpet and can’t seem to lighten up or take a joke. If I have to hear her talk about nothing over and over again on the red carpet in her whisper of a voice I’ll just vomit. Since she’s nominated though we’ll all be well aware of what she’s wearing. She will undoubtedly come in something with a pattern or some playful lace. Something with a crew neck and some sort of pixie feel. I hope her and Busy are not doing the matching headband theme again.

Shailene Woodley:

This young gal is a fresh face to the red carpet season. To bad her choices in clothes have not served her so well. The Marchesa dress she wore to the Globes (see pic) was youthful and pretty-so that choice was fine but she really misstepped at the SAGS: that red and blue flowered L’Wren Scott was just god awful. Did she think the theme was to wear what you think Meryl Streep might be wearing-than fine, YOU WON. All I can hope is that she gets herself into something playful, fun, and age appropriate. And she better make it last because just like George Clooney’s girlfriends I see this as a one time red-carpet run.

Funny Lady…

The Oscar’s are tipping their hat to comedies this year. What?!? They are obviously doing this so in 10 years when they’re asked: “How come the Academy never honors comedies?” their answer will be “remember that one time we nominated all those actors from ‘Bridesmaids?’

Kristin Wiig: This funny lady will be one to watch for sure, since she’s the ring leader of the bunch. She also has the most potential to knock it out on the red carpet. Or she could almost knock it out of the park but then wear a crazy chocker (the Globes). There is a definite possibility for this. We shall see…

The Veteren…

Meryl, Meryl, Meryl: Homegirl doesn’t know how to go a year without playing an Oscar worth role! That’s just why we love her so much! Fortunately for Meryl all eyes are on her acting career and what she wears doesn’t really matter and thank god because she always ends up coming in some sort of mumu kimon type situation. Although, for a classy lady like herself maybe she’ll pick a classic look from Carolina Herrera.

Other than the nominated ladies we’ll see some other red carpet vets hitting the run way from the likes of Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Charlize Theron, Penelope Cruz (maybe)?!, Reese Witherspoon, etc.

I’m just so excited! Tell me who you think will be best dressed…
